We Tried Some New Places!! - Pensacola, FL
Wow, it has been A WHILE! But hey wedding planning did me like that. Anyway, I’m back and ready to give you the latest on life in Pensacola, FL. This post is going to be a bit of a hodgepodge but I figured I’ll just lay it all out.
1) Agapi
Agapi is a Greek-inspired restaurant off Scenic Highway. We went for small plates and drinks which was nice because we could try a bunch of different things. The cocktails were fun and the combinations were kind of interesting. We liked the Mediterranean Mule made with fig vodka and ginger beer. As far as small plates we tried the bao buns and they were decent, but what really won us over was the gnocchi.
As far as atmosphere, the restaurant is small on the inside. We sat outside which was fine, but you are close to the parking lot so not the most ideal setting, especially if it’s really hot out. I would say a reservation is a must.
2) Union Public House
This place was recommended to us a lot, and I finally got to try it! This place is worth the hype, seems like they can nail almost anything on the menu. Personally I have tried a burger from here as well as the watermelon salmon salad and both were delicious. It’s a bit pricier and you’ll want to dress at least smart casual attire, but a lovely spot for a date or a celebration. Inside is cozy and a fair size.
3) Ozone Pizza
Ozone pizza was another spot we kept hearing about but hadn’t gotten around to trying. I think it’s because Domino’s has the deals that we know and can’t resist when it comes to pizza. However, in the spirit of eating local and trying something new, we went to Ozone. I usually like thin Italian-style pizza, and this pizza was not that. Ozone is more pub-style pizza. BUT I liked it a lot. Partially I think it is the fun topping combos they have on their suggested pizzas/signature pizzas. We really like the Italian Flag pizza.
Atmosphere is a big part of the charm here. Ozone sits in the basement of an old hospital. Honestly, this may be why I never jumped out of my seat to try this pizza place when I first heard about it, but it is more charming than it sounds. It’s a charming old hospital, think stone, not sterile. Anyway, you’ll just have to see for yourself. Also, this restaurant shares a building with our very favorite gelato place in all of Pensacola – Lamonte Gelato. So be sure to explore just across the hall to try this gem.
4) Pedro’s
Pensacola has a number of Mexican restaurant chains and so far, in Milton, we’ve tried La Hacienda and Pedro’s. Both were very good but I have to say I liked the fajitas at Pedro’s better. Not sure what type of sauce they marinated the chicken and veggies in but it was incredible. They also have margarita flights here, which was an unexpected fun surprise. La Hacienda did not serve alcohol, which was fine, but worth noting.
5) Mama’s Tacos Pensacola
We just found out about this place and it was a fun quick spot. I was shocked at how fast we got our food. I got mix and match street tacos in corn tortillas. The tacos were good, but what I really enjoyed was the bean dip-like dip that came with the chips as the appetizer.
6) Perfect Plain
We went to Perfect Plain for trivia, which, as of the time of this post was Tuesday (I know these sometimes change so call before you go!) This was a super fun spot! The trivia was fast-paced (in a good way) and there was a Mexican food truck out back as well as an outdoor bar. The beer/sour selection was very fun. Our favorite was the limited edition Purple beer which just kind of tasted like Grape Fanta. The nachos from the food truck were just okay, I would stick to the tacos if I were you.
7) Andy D’s
Seldom do we venture to Navarre, but we decided to head out there for a beach day and ended up at Andy D’s for an afternoon meal and piña colada. We sat outside on the deck and although we couldn’t see the ocean and were right next to the parking lot, we felt elevated enough that it was a beachy vibe. I really enjoyed the blackened chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. The piña coladas were good. You can pay an extra $5 to get the drink in a carved out pineapple, but I didn’t think this was worth it because you couldn’t eat much of the pineapple and it wasn’t a super cute display. Overall, the food and service were great.
