I recently went on an autumn New England roadtrip where I drove the Kancamagus Highway with some friends and wanted to compile a list of our favorite stops!
1. The Suspension Foot Bridge at the Lincoln Woods Trailhead
There were multiple trails to hike here, but we just made it a quick stop to see the bridge. You can make it as long as you want!
2. Sugar Hill Overlook
3. The Rocky Gorge Scenic Area (Including Falls Pond)
To get to Falls Pond you’ll want to cross the bridge and then continue on the path until you see the sign for Falls Pond.
4. The Lower Falls on the Swift River
5. The White Mountain National Forest Bridge
6. The Willey House and Scenic Area
The actual Willey House, across from this scenic area, was a bit underwhelming. They had various souvenirs and some sweets, so if that’s what you are looking for it’s worth a trip inside. There’s also a short walk through the woods on the opposite side of the pond as Willey House, which was nothing special, but a nice stretch for the legs. Our favorite part of this stop was the lake and mountains.
7. The Mount Washington Hotel & Resort
This is a pretty place to stop for a drink on the back balcony, however when we went it was already full so you may want to keep that in mind. It’s also a neat historical site for those that are interested in finance history. This hotel was the site of the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference where a new international monetary system was formed. There is a room with some pictures and history information inside the hotel, to the right when you walk in through the front called the Gold Room.
