Auburn, AL - How to Eat Like a Local

I recently stopped in Auburn, AL on the way to Dahlonega, GA. Although the stop was short, I was able to try a few food places and see enough to know that I need to make another trip back! So, I will definitely make more posts about Auburn soon.

1. The Irritable Bao

Inside Irritable Bao Restaurant

Although my friends that went to Auburn set my expectations very high for this spot, after eating here my expectations were still exceeded. Not only is the food delicious and unique, but the food is reasonably priced and the menu is dynamic. Pictured to the right is the Boom Boom Shrimp Bowl and the Hound bao bun collaboration with a Korean cheesesteak filling.

Additionally, the owner is super friendly and benevolent, currently giving away around 20% of profits to charity. The hours for this spot vary, so plan accordingly and be prepared for a line. It’s well worth it!

2. Toomer’s Lemonade

Toomer's Frozen Lemonade

Available in both frozen and traditional, this sweet treat is a refreshing way to wait out the bao line! I tried the original and peach flavors, both were great.

They also have very cute Auburn sweatshirts here that I was very close to buying. Maybe next time.

3. El Ranchero

Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of my meal but OH MY GOSH was it good. I got the #20 Pollo Feliz. The chips and salsa is also classic and a must with a bit of kick, but not overwhelming. Definitely a staple spot if you are looking for Mexican food. We got our food to-go, so I am not sure how the atmosphere is.

That's all for this short stop, but more Auburn posts to come!
