Amsterdam is full of beautiful window displays from stroopwafels to cheese. This is something fun to pay attention to throughout your trip!
2. Visit the Van Gogh Museum
The audio tour was a little cheesy, but it made the visit more interesting because it discussed the paintings in relation to Van Gogh’s life and gave me a different perspective on the art.
3. Visit the Anne Frank House
We thought the museum did a great job making sure there were not too many people in the house at one time. It was a very quiet and respectful atmosphere, as everyone was listening to their own walking tour. Although there was no furniture, there were pictures of what the rooms looked like when there was furniture and that was neat to see. We got lucky with last minute tickets so definitely book in advance if possible!
4. See the “I Amsterdam” Sign
This is just a fun picture opportunity if you are interested!
5. Tour Castle de Haar
This opulent castle lives just outside of Amsterdam near Utrecht. We enjoyed the tour and had a fancy lunch in the restaurant which included leek soup served in a glass and several tasty afternoon treats. If you go definitely check out the grounds because there are some peaceful ponds and flower gardens.
6. Try a Cafe Off the Beaten Path
There are a ton of lowkey cafes scattered along the canals, but we really liked Singel 404 Cafe. We were able to eat lunch right on the canal with minimal crowds. Definitely a peaceful atmosphere.
