How to be Lizzie McGuire in Sorrento, Italy

A true Italian gem, this city is one of our favorites in Italy! Not only is the town itself charming, but there are lots of things worth seeing close by. Plus, although this of course isn’t Rome, the vibes were very much Lizzie McGuire and Paolo riding on a red moped. But all nostalgia aside, below is what to do and where to stay. Our two-night stay was perfect.

Note: Sorrento is a bit crazy because it’s very hilly and the drivers are aggressive. When you are exploring the streets, be cautious of the many mopeds zipping around.

What to do in Sorrento, Italy:

Positano, Italy

1. Take a Boat to Positano, Italy

View of Capri

There are so many unbelievably cute Italian towns nestled in these cliffside hills that traveling by boat is ideal. We took a ferry from Sorrento that went by Capri, then stopped in Positano and the town of Amalfi. It was a bit touristy, but it was worth it to see these towns. Although these towns are adorable, I would recommend visiting for an hour or two, instead of staying overnight since they are very crowded.

2. Visit Pompeii

Pompeii is only about 30 minutes by train from Sorrento and definitely worth the trip if you enjoy history. We listened to a downloaded audio tour during our visit which made everything more significant and interesting.

For those who don’t know, Pompeii is a city in Italy that was buried in 19 feet of ash due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius 2,000 years ago. Today, Pompeii is a large archaeological site that is still being excavated. I especially enjoyed the historic art that was still visible on crumbling walls.

3. Try Limoncello

Sorrento, Italy

This area is crazy about limoncello! It was everywhere, so give it a try. It’s not bad. Sometimes, it comes free of charge after a dinner :).

We absolutely loved our stay here. Friendly staff and everything was brightclean, and neat. What more could you ask for?

For breakfast, you descend down into a charming basement breakfast area with many delicious choices. The woman that served us coffee at breakfast was funny and friendly as well so, the people at this hotel were definitely the foam on top :).
