Also called the Hôtel de Glace, the Ice Hotel is normally open between January and March. You can stay at the hotel or just visit and enjoy warm drinks by the fire and the incredible ice sculptures. If you plan to stay overnight, in order to stay warmyou may be required to hang out in the hot tub before bed to increase your body temperature so that its elevated when you get into your arctic sleeping bag and go to sleep.
2. Winter Carnival – Québec City
The Carnival de Québec is a festival in February with a bunch of fun winter activities, mostly centered around ice or snow. The festival is especially fun for kids. If you get lucky you may even see the bonhomme de neige, the snowman that is the face of the carnival.
3. Montmorency Falls
When you go, be sure to walk across the bridge and down the side if it’s open to the public. In February parts of the waterfall may be frozen which is a treat to see.
4. It’s a Cozy Time to Visit a Sugar Shack
A sugar shack is an establishment in which maple sap is gathered from trees and then boiled into maple syrup. We visited the Érablière du Cap Inc. sugar shack. In the outdoor space we were able to make our own frozen maple treats! Initially, when we first arrived, we were a bit sketched out, because it’s essentially a cabin in the woods. However, when we got inside everyone was very nice and the restaurant was lively.
5. It’s Not Peak Season
February is a great time to visit because you will still get the cozy winter vibes without the year-end holiday crowds.
I hope you are able to make it there soon! I can’t wait to go back. Next time I visit I plan to try the Strøm Spa, which is a nordic spa that looks amazing! Comment below if you’ve been and what your thoughts were. For more Canada travel insights, here is my Canada page.
